The General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Bernard Mornah, says the party will work hard to win seats in next year’s election with or without the support of the governing National Democratic Congress.

He said it was regrettable that in spite of the collaboration between the two parties, the NDC is fielding parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the PNC clearly has competitive advantage.

The PNC has only one Member of Parliament, Alhassan Azong, of Builsa South in the Upper East Region.

But Presidential staffer, Dr. Clement Apaak is trying to unseat him.

Dr. Apaak has already picked nomination forms to contest in the NDC’s November 7 primaries for the parliamentary slot in that constituency.

An obviously unhappy Bernard Mornah told Samson Lardy Anyenini on Joy FM and MultiTV’s news analysis programme, Newsfile, “the NDC does not respect the mutuality that exists between us.”

The PNC’s lone MP, Alhassan Azong, he said, “has collaborated and worked with the NDC all this time and supported them in many policy decisions.”

But the governing party is seeking to take the seat it held from 1992 to 2008 when it lost it to Mr. Azong and the PNC. Bernard said, “I thought that democracy is not about adversarial contests.”

He said the NDC has shown that it is “not worth the confidence we granted them and [so]…we have decided that we are going to put our best foot forward this time round. We are not going to win only the Builsa South seat, we are going to win many others.”

The PNC hasn’t proven capable of winning any substantial number of seats in parliament on its own and there is no tangible evidence that the trend will change in next year’s polls.

Bernard Mornah and the PNC has a lot of work to do if they want to prove that his optimism is grounded in something other than day dreaming.
